Morssinkhof - Rymoplast signs the Dutch Green Deal for plastic recycling

Morssinkhof-Rymoplast has signed the Dutch Green Deal "Reliable Evidence for the Use of Recycled Plastics."

Plastic recycling is crucial in the pursuit of a circular economy. Because plastics are often made from fossil fuels, incinerating plastics at the waste stage leads to greenhouse gas emissions. These emissions can be significantly reduced in the Netherlands and Europe by significantly increasing the volume and quality of plastic recycling.

It is crucial for companies in the plastics value chain to be able to make transparent and reliable claims regarding the percentage of recycled plastic in their products. Today, the Ministries of Infrastructure and Water Management and of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, the plastics industry associations (NRK and NRK-Recycling, PlasticsEurope Netherlands), BASF, Morssinkhof-Rymoplast, SABIC, Philips, Unilever, and NEN signed a green deal to develop an approach to transparently and verifiably determine the recyclate content of intermediate or end products. Especially during the transition phase, when recyclate volumes are not yet sufficient, the industry will gradually increase the recyclate content, often by blending it with fossil-based raw materials.

Developing such a methodology requires a thorough understanding of the various stages of the plastics supply chain, from the processing of plastic waste streams to the production of end products. Furthermore, knowledge and experience are needed regarding the practical application of this methodology and the correct handling of evidence regarding the recyclate content of products. Transparency throughout the plastics chain is essential; the methodology to be developed must be usable for all companies in this chain.
